Anyone with neuropathy?

My sis has awful numb sensation in her middle toe now spreading to other toes. Ever have this? Also she can't put pressure on the foot because then there is searing pain. Also a squeezing pain. And the toes feel stiff..can barely bend them. She can't even walk now. All within a couple months. 🥺Her neurologist did an EMG that measures nerves and their function and it did show possible neuropathy. She has been diabetic 25 years with unstable sugars. But she did also hurt her back and he said it could partly be that too. If you had this and it WAS neuropathy... what treatment helped?

Two recommended vitamin supplements for diabetic neuropathy are:
1. Benfotamine (fat soluble vitamin B-1)
2. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) - make sure it is [c=BF0000]R-ALA,[/c] not S-ALA. If it simply says ALA, then it is the cheaper S type.

My wife has it and Gabapentin helps. But I see that didn't work for your sister.

My wife has found that acupressure helps also.

@DrWatson Oh ok ty. I will tell her. 🐞
Oh no. My dad had diabetic neuropathy. Nothing helped him much when it progressed. ☹️

@Colonelmustardseed I am really nervous because she is just 35 and it is getting worse every month. The only thing that could reverse it a little is getting her sugars down but they don't stay there. Her sugar goes up from coffee even or hot shower. 🙁
@Coralmist That’s so young. 😞 I hope something does help her.

I do and it is awful

@Coralmist Yes the Nevro Spinal Cord Stimulator is for Neuropathy and it's definitely interesting. It has reduced my pain but is not the total solution.

I think you and I chatted about this before. As far as your sister's sugars are concerned fluctuations are not good.

My A1C is 56 but it has taken extreme discipline dietarily speaking. Yoga and a really strong desire to stop the further nerve damage. Once the nerve endings die they will never come back.

If you are worried for her or want to have a chat hmu

@gdon39 I will definitely have her look into the Stimulator. I appreciate your reply and sharing your experience..That is wonderful your A1C is a good number!!

@gdon39 Did the spinal cord stimulator cost a lot? Did it diminish any numbness in feet too (in addition to pain)?

Has she tried Gabapentin? I understand that helps a little.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@BOREDAFPA She is on Lyrica but it has not helped. She tried Gabapentin for another issue she has with severe leg pain and it also didn't help. 😞

Yep, my whole feet.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Steve42 How long have you had neuropathy? Does any treatment help?
My father has it too. A foot massager, physical therapy for the feet by a professional. Also, something called nervprin that is available in pill form are some suggestions
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@mindlessdrifter Ty for that. Is nevprin over the counter or Rx?
@Coralmist It's available online

Type one or type two diabetes ?
My dad has pretty serious neuropathy. He takes Pregabalin, which is a generic form of Lyrica. It doesn't mask all the symptoms, but the worst of the pain only comes through when he runs out.

@LordShadowfire They put her on Lyrica unfortunately it has not helped. I'm sorry your dad also has this. 😔
