What was it like to do PE in bare feet?

Growing up in the US, going barefoot in PE was unheard of. We always wore sneakers (trainers) and socks. I remember a few gymnastic lessons in elementary school where we took our shoes off, but socks stayed on. After doing some research, I found out that it’s common in the UK to do PE in bare feet. Did you remove your footwear while getting changed, or were you told to? After reading some people’s experiences, I feel like I missed out on something.

Do you ever worry that the other students will step on your feet by accident?
Mariagirl · 18-21, F
@DavidT8899 No, we don't do many contact sports.

@Mariagirl That's a good thing! If you had to play, for instance, basketball,I could see where someone might get the idea to "accidentally"step on your toes.
Mariagirl · 18-21, F
@DavidT8899 ha ha that would be mean. We are doing circuits all week at PE which is good fun
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Mariagirl First of all, what is "circuits"?And yes, that would be mean, but who's to say there might not be mean people in your class?
Mariagirl · 18-21, F
@DavidT8899 Circuit training is where we get put into small groups and we have four different workouts that we do one after for 3 minutes with a minutes break.
We do skipping, bench steps, push ups and squats.
You can choose to do what you want though.
We have just started it last week but it's hard but good fun.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Mariagirl And you do it in bare feet?
Mariagirl · 18-21, F
@DavidT8899 @DavidT8899 Yes I have to go barefoot, we are going to do it each day when we have a spare period as it's newish to us but we like it.
You seemed surprised that I go barefoot, are you not from UK as some other schools do the same or did.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Mariagirl Well,I hope someone doesn't sneak up behind you and tickle your feet! And yes,I'm not from the U.K.,but I did have to go barefoot in gym for awhile as a middle school students. It turned out to be VERY embarrassing;though I have to admit that it wasn't anything that had to do with the class itself.
Mariagirl · 18-21, F
@DavidT8899 hope it wasn't too embarrassing.
As for tickling some of the boys did get hold of a feather duster a few times and tried😐
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Mariagirl Actually,it was too embarrassing.😔But how did the feather duster thing work out?
Mariagirl · 18-21, F
@DavidT8899 Oh it was just the boys being funny when the teacher wasn't there.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Mariagirl If they were really serious about tickling, bare fingers work best.
Mariagirl · 18-21, F
@DavidT8899 Nooooo, it's bad enough having to do PE and drama barefoot and get chased with a feather duster.😮
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Mariagirl Sorry that happened. But at least you didn't end up barefoot in the Vice-Principals office!
Mariagirl · 18-21, F
@DavidT8899 Don't be sorry, they are just fooling around.
Was that the embarrassing incident you mentioned?
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Mariagirl Long story short:I had to walk barefoot from the gym directly into the Vice-Principals office.I was hoping she wouldn't notice. She did.She thought it was funny.I thought it was embarrassing.
