When Indians want to chat with me, thinking I'm a "fellow Indian"

Wrong kind of Indian, my dude. 🙄
I thought calling native Americans Indians was offensive?
@HijabaDabbaDoo Not really, it's just politically incorrect. Some don't mind it at all and even refer to themselves as Indian. But it's an improper term.

@HijabaDabbaDoo it was still incredibly common up into the 90s. And then even then kids watching older cartoons and movies would see them get called Indians in movies and media. In some places they actually teach the darker sides of American history such as the trail of tears and kids learn more proper terms. Other places they sort of sweep it away and people don't learn.

I will defer to native americans as to whether it's continued use is offensive, simply insensitive or ignorant, or not a problem at all. This is just the history of usage I know as a white person.
@JustGoneNow That's why I always do. Referring to us as "Indians" is a bit outdated anyway.
@PerchingDove agreed. 🖤🤗
@PerchingDove I mean how long does Columbus have to keep hearing that joke, anyways.

What should we refer to you as?
@Lostlostlost Native American, indigenous, first nations, even red. 😆 So long as it's not Indian, it works for me.

I like First Nations, as you probably know we English are eccentric at best.@PerchingDove

So you are the feather types?

I must admit I haven't really referred to native americans as indians since I was like twelve. And with relative populations I guess it is going to be far more common to encounter people with heritage from India online.
