I have always been an atheist

As a child my Grandmother (who raised me) forced me to go to church every Sunday.
It had no positive effect on me. Sitting for an hour, listening to the guy up front waffle on about stuff I neither understood nor cared about. The whole church singing and say amen so many times.
The only time I have entered a church since those days was for the funeral of my father, brother and grandmother. Plus the marriage of a brother.
I am a much saddened that society is in many ways controlled/steered by religious people forcing their views and morals on what we can and can not do.
Politicians who use their religious views to vote a certain way - Abortion being one issue.
I am not knocking people with religion as the core of their existence but why should they foist their opinions on me and the rest of society?

I can live very well with atheism. I can live with a few religions even.

Yet never with any form of organized religion.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer Yet God is a God of order not disorder and we as Christians are told to meet together on a regular basis. So in order to have an ordered meeting..... There needs to be some sort of organisation. Funny thing is that in my experience as a church starter/repairman the one thing that is obvious is that if a church is to grow through conversion not stealing members from other churches the start up church must have a organisational structure.

@hippyjoe1955 I know of many belief systems that have no organization. Some of them are even Christian.

They operate out of their houses! There's no church!
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer And they still have a structure and they still have an order. The only difference is the size.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 they don't have an agenda that ALL ORGANIZATIONS have!

Even commercial ORGANIZATIONS have agendas. Like profit.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer Yeah they do or else they wouldn't be gathered. What would be the point of meeting if there was nothing to discuss or no future plans?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 they have their shared beliefs! They don't push their beliefs on others either!

You actually have to sign up to even know about them.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer uh yeah they do. The commission of our Lord and Saviour is to push our beliefs. Pushing ones' Christian beliefs is a good thing.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 I have been apart of many of these in house beliefs.

By invitation!

And you had to RSVP back!
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer Yawn And that proves?????? I have a house church meeting in my home. It is open to anyone who wants to come. Not too many weeks ago we had 35 people there.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 They don't want uninterested people, is what RSVP back means!
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer Uninterested people aren't likely to show up anyways. No point in trying to keep the agenda secret. Jesus said you don't light a light and put it under a basket. You put it on a lamp stand so it lights the entire room.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 Jesus had no such light. He didn't go house to house either. He had no church either!

That was how the way international operated BTW in the 1980s!

You got invited to their house meetings.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer He had thousands of followers at times during His ministry. You want to argue with Him go right ahead. I will stand back and watch.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 I'm just giving one such example.

And the only reason why I even give them is because they no longer exist!
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer Example of what exactly? Some crank religious cult that doesn't believe in church so they have church in their home? Let me guess you follow John Darby and his spiritual seance routine as well.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 I am no longer Christian and you should know that!

I'm just giving examples of beliefs without organizations!

And you don't want to believe it
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer Then what is your point. If you want to be in some brainless cult then knock yourself out. No one except you cares who or where or under what mysterious ways you meet with fellow 'non believers'. I am a Christian because of the evidence not because I want to be a rebel.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M

@DeWayfarer Only in your mind. Have a nice home meeting to discuss the nascent energy in butterflies. I am sure no one will notice your agenda.
