Why aren’t there more atheists? ~
More accurately, why don’t more of us admit to being atheists?
Some people are afraid to admit to others that they don’t believe in God, and here’s why.
Studies have shown that many Americans don’t trust atheists. They don’t want to vote for atheists and they don’t want their children to marry atheists. Even atheists presume that serial killers are more likely to be atheists than not.
Given all this, it’s not hard to see why atheists
often prefer to keep quiet about it. They want to be liked.
But here’s the thing about actually believing in God.
Many people believe because life is confusing and death is scary. Naturally, humans want to believe that someone capable is in charge and that we continue to live after we die. But wanting doesn’t make it so.
And there we have it.
