Probably varies from individual to individual, there isn't one reason why. A lot of people who call themselves atheist are actually just anti-theists. You cannot hate something that much if you don't think it is at least possible it exists. It being God of course.
@SamInAZ Possibly. Although i think more often the anti-theists are those who hate the religion or even the people who practice it rather than a god they don't believe in.
I do think there are multiple reasons for being an atheist. I know some folks find out something they were taught about god or the Bible wasn't true and began falling away. Other people like me were just never convinced.

I think you're right with regard to the anti-theist on the first half but the second half does not necessarily follow logically.
They need not hate the god of Abraham in order to hate what Christians do in the name of that god or what Christians believe is good and just because of their belief in that god.
It seems to me that no consideration to the god need be given at all in order for the anti-theist to hate the religious.
