I Am An Atheist

I am a proud atheist and an ex Christian and ex Mormon.
Also my lack of belief in a god has nothing to do with the theory of evolution. Christians just cannot seem to accept this fact. When I first became an atheist I didn’t even know anything about the theory of evolution. I have learned about it since then because they keep forcing me to defend it. I am not the best qualified person to defend it but some of them just can’t seem to accept this fact.
Also I do not hate god. How can I hate something I don’t believe in.
The reason I’m an atheist is because I visited atheist websites and finally listened to them with an open mind. I also listened to apologists with an open mind. I learned to much about the Bible and the history of Mormonism.

It just seems every newly minted atheist seems to feel the need to shout out how proud he/she is of losing faith. We get it... you have suddenly become filled with new knowledge after being released from the mind you blame God for keeping closed... when you did believe in him, that is.

What is remarkable to me though is that now that you don't believe in God you still seem to blame him (religion) for your closed mind. If you are really proud of being an atheist then take the accountability necessary to admit it was YOU that kept your mind closed. You might also find that's the real reason you lost your faith in the first place. And, maybe that's not something to be so proud about.

@MarkPaul you have no idea how hard it is to break free from a brainwashing that's been going on since we were born, there's alot of pride in that

@MarkPaul I see posts by proud Christians and Muslims too. Some of them also blame atheists too. Nobody seems to have problem with that. Why do you have problem when someone have a different opinion than you? I suggest you to sit down and mind your business.

@JBird That seems like an odd thing to suggest in a public online forum designed to encourage people to comment. What are you so afraid of?

Funny, you said this before you moaned about atheists hurting your feelings.

@MarkPaul

@JBird Even funnier (or sadder)... that your feelings are the ones that got hurt.
JBird · F
@MarkPaul like how? At least it's not sadder or funnier than stealing someone's joke when you have nothing to say. Btw, yes, I was hurt, not for myself but to see you see cry over how atheists said mean things about Christians. 😆
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@JBird Except you continue to be the one crying. 😎
JBird · F
@MarkPaul don't worry, baby. Mama will talk to those meanie atheists not to pick on you anymore. 😘
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@JBird Sounds like you can't get over this. Do you want to talk about it? 😎
JBird · F
@MarkPaul shh, go to sleep. 🤫🤫🤫🤫😴😴😴
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@JBird Okay baby-girl... but first you need to say your prayers. 😎

@MarkPaul first off, I am not a newly minted atheist. I have been one for 19 years. I kept this a secret for many years which included going to church. I finally came out as one because I got tired of living a lie. I have had family be upset and surprised because they knew me as a very devout Christian. On rare occasions I have had Christians be very rude to me,( but to be fair most have been great about it.) and I am very proud of myself for finally using critical thinking skills.
I have never blamed god for closing my mind. That doesn’t even make sense. How can I blame god for something if I don’t believe in god? It is my fault I had been so closed minded for so many years. The reason I lost my faith is because I opened my mind enough to listen to the atheist. . I never thought I would become one. I thought learning about atheism would help me witness to them. The first time I met an atheist was in the army. I didn’t know anything about it. I was trying to witness to him and we would talk some. I thought for sure he was wrong and I was right. I never thought in a million years I would become one.

@MarkPaul now I suspect that you have a closed mind similar to how I used too. If Christianity is the correct religion then it should stand against any criticism. The truth never fears investigation.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Bandit2398 Except... you're the one acting up because I question your sincerity and critique your argument. I suggest you examine your own motives and keep that chip on your shoulder in check. I suspect your self-proclaimed "open mind" isn't leaving much room for daylight.
Bandit2398 · 51-55, M
@MarkPaul I am not acting up and I did not give you an argument to critique. All I did was correct you on misconceptions you had about me. And I am still open minded. Give me good reasons why I should believe a god exists or good evidence and I will consider them. If you discover there are no good reasons to believe will you change your mind?
I don’t see how you questioned my sincerity.
Bandit2398 · 51-55, M
@MarkPaul I also hope you understand I have no hard feelings toward you. I welcome your comments.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Bandit2398 I am not convinced my job or God's wish is for me to attempt to thwart you from your own free will. If you are educated about God's will as you claim you once were, there is nothing more I can teach you. I have learned it is a foolish errand to attempt to turn someone's mind towards or away from God if that person is kicking and screaming.

My faith is intact and growing and I have already decided not to change my mind or become apathetic about that. You have chosen to put your faith in your belief and I have chosen to put mine in God.
Bandit2398 · 51-55, M
Well sir, if you have decided that you’re not going to change your mind no matter what new arguments you hear or new evidence then you are basically admitting to being unreasonable. I hate to say that but that’s what an unreasonable person does. So do you really think there is no way you could be wrong?@MarkPaul
Bandit2398 · 51-55, M
@MarkPaul I will still listen to you with an open mind even though you won’t do the same.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Bandit2398 I don't think there is any practical way God could be wrong. Oh, I could play the disingenuous mind game you are playing (no offense) by saying, present me with arguments to convince me otherwise, but there is absolutely nothing I can say to make you see God and there is nothing you can say to prove he is non-existent. That's just the way faith works. I suspect you already know that despite the fabricated mechanics of your "open-mind" claim.
Bandit2398 · 51-55, M
I have a question sir? You said that’s the way faith works? Why is it good to believe by faith instead of evidence or reasoning? I really want to know.@MarkPaul
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Bandit2398 It sounds like you are attempting to apply all the rules of the physical world as we know them to God. It's basically like trying to literally plead with someone that the earth is a globe (not flat) with someone who insists on showing you pictures of the horizon.

For the record, the earth is a globe even though pictures of the horizon do look like there is a flat end.
