I Am An Atheist

I am an atheist, but I have a weird cultural feeling fondness for the church of england still, and some of its music can be incredibly moving. Not that i go to church pretty much ever.

Maybe it reflects how little religion is in the CofE as much as how much religion is in me :P

I'm an atheist, but goddamn churches look fly as hell (pun not intended)

There is a difference between a religious place/location, a religious organization and being religious/spiritual.

I agree that the gothic churches are moving and when one remembers that the music was written for the setting to invoke a feeling or mood it makes sense (at least to me).

I no longer go to a church however I consider myself spiritual as I organized religion is an issue to me. There is a saying in the US I love Jesus it is his followers that scare me
I'm atheist but I like Christmas 😁

I sing in the school choir and I go to church every Sunday. Wouldn't go if it wasn't for the music, but the music is definitely something more than just entertainment.

@EvilFairy Me too. Whether or not the religion is a good thing (or true), I'm glad that it's left such a beautiful legacy

As am atheist myself I agree. I believe that the appreciation of gothic architecture and spiritual music has nothing to do with believing in a higher power, it's more about the beauty of all things human kind has achieved....

Yeah no I totally get you.. art in any form can be beautiful and the architecture of some churches is pretty captivating
Same I am atheist but love religion and think it can do good but often just see it's failures:(
I was episcopalian - loved the old english back in the day

actually atheist do not exists , there so many other things they believe on face value.
Habby · 22-25, F
@Khenpal1 I don't see why it can't. And yes it might be possible to speak of atheist Buddhists
Khenpal1 · M
@Habby yes , but it is more cultural and not as believe

Exactly my point lol
Religion helps make up a huge part of culture. And even if you don't believe in that particular aspect, it can still be nice to see and have around on occasion.

Me too, but Christianity is still part of our culture. I am still moved by religious Christmas songs like O holy Night still.

Call me old fashioned, but a little evidence is always handy!
Great Architecture though ✌

I really enjoy going to church, maybe you should try going more. It may make you a better person.

I am a Christian but I kind of like your point of view.

I feel exactly the same,
I understand that. I left the Catholic Church several years ago, but still love the music I grew up with, and I miss the atmosphere, the candles, incense, that part seemed so mystical and beautiful. And I loved the architecture of the cathedrals and even the Missions in my state, like Mission San Francisco de Asis (aka Dolores)
Still standing, it was built in 1791.
I'm agnostic but I respect the Latin Mass of my childhood for cultural reasons, too, and fond memories. As a child I once asked my father why the priest didn't say it in English, and Pop replied in mock solemnity, "Because God does not want us to know what's going on !" 🤭
