Mysteries of the Universe

Between folks here and my tendency to read novels set in the UK, I’ve long been mystified by the “chocolate digestive.” It seemed to me that it must be a very popular fiber type wafer like those cardboard Metamucil things my mother used to gnaw on. I imagined the whole of the UK was regular as clockwork as pervasive as things seemed to be. 😆

We were in a hallmark store a few months ago and Lo! There’s a whole display of “Irish foods.” I got me some Barry’s Irish breakfast tea - very nice - some Scottish shortbread cookies - delicious but sat like a rock - and YES! The mysterious chocolate digestives!! I was ridiculously excited. 😂

Imagine my confusion to find they’re like a lightweight graham cracker with a thin chocolatey smear. I actually really liked them - they’re not icky sweet or heavy - but alas. Still no idea why they got stuck with what strikes me as the somewhat unappetizing moniker of “digestive.” 🤷‍♀
