Le Rêve (The Dream), Pablo Picasso, 1932

One of Pablo Picasso’s famous portrait paintings of his mistress, Marie-Thérèse Walter. It has been described as “erotic”, reportedly painted in one day, and was sold for over $150 million in 2013.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON I knew that street curry wasn't going to agree with your stomach.😉

My artistic endeavors have been compared to Picasso in the past...and as practice, I used to copy his charcoal sketches and paintings. I painted the Absinthe Drinker from his blue period in acrylic for a family friend, and also painted Harlequin. Then I drew Mother and Child in charcoal for my 2nd ex mother-in-law.

In Barcelona and Malaga there are examples of his early work, where he was conventional. His style was rather cramped.

This is much more vibrant. He could knock his latter work off in half an hour, so what.

His most dynamic work is in Ceret, where he often met Dali. Banned from visiting Spain of course, by the sterile Franco regime, devoid of all creativity.

@peterlee I read that he completed this work in an afternoon.

@RuyLopez He tried to outwit the art dealers in latter life by flooding the market. His children were furious.

@peterlee Well, I still like his style and this piece in particular has always captured by attention for many reasons.
This is beautiful …

@Soossie Hey there Ms.Soosie! It is good to hear from you again. I am so glad you are still on here. I love the colors he uses. Did you notice split in her forehead? Little not so subtle Picasso sexual innuendo..... 😉
@RuyLopez

Hugs … I’m very happy to see you too.. I truly missed you and your wonderful posts .. 🤗🤗

I did notice the split on the forehead … it’s Picasso … it’s cubism … it’s magic …

The series of his paintings of Marie Therese was a period of turning from cubism to surrealism … a period when he was experiencing sensuality and sex with his mistress, while being married … 😉

Never really got into Picasso; more of a Dali person.

Famous? Erotic? Lol.
You like what you like. But this is neither of those things to me.
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
@Magenta I like his use of colors in this piece. Eroticism is a bit forced (e.g. the phallus shaped integrated in her forehead.) lol But I do like the overall composition.
