Wall Art Choices... your opinion?

These are three I've picked out of a host of others I've looked at. All are canvas stretched over a wood frame. All three will be in the living room on opposing or adjacent walls.

The room walls are a very light blue/gray, the furniture all dark natural woods (walnut/mahogany mainly) and dark fabrics, and wood floors with Asian dark red print rug.

What do you think? Too much color or the subjects wouldn't go well in the same room, or?

This one is 30" x 60"

This one is 16" x 24"

Vibrant, very bright and busy. Light blue gray sounds kind of soft but I'm sure the pictures will come right at you. My drawing II teacher suggested I pick another career. Guess she didn't like my stickmen or the way I drew birds that looked like floating little Vs. so after higher education I spent 50 years building houses and bending nails. Guess I showed her.

Those are all beautiful. I love color, warmth, and coziness in my home.

I think they may be too busy and colorful. Perhaps a few softer and lighter selections?
MagentaF
@Ontheroad Haha, I know. I'm the same. Sometimes it's hard to choose. 馃槃
Maybe get someone to hold them up as you step back and take a look?
OntheroadM
@Magenta Now I'm thinking I could still get all three and just put them in different rooms馃榿

I mean, I really do need to spiff up and decorate a little.
MagentaF
@Ontheroad Oh that could work! Whatever makes your home yours. 馃槉

I really like the top one,I've got it on my computer...itsa lot of color but you have a neutral wall/furniture

I put up artwork by myself, my wife, my father-in-law, or my great uncle. Keep it in the family. ;)
CrystalSkullF
Art shouldn鈥檛 be about furniture or the rug, get the ones that speak to you. Never mind anything else.
OntheroadM
@CrystalSkull Hmmm, I get what you are saying, but for me, it does make a difference where a piece of art is displayed. For me, the environment impacts how it "speaks" to the viewer. In this case, me.
CrystalSkullF
@Ontheroad of course the space where it鈥檚 displayed counts. But if you really love a piece you鈥檒l find a space.
OntheroadM
@CrystalSkull True, and I've got so many I love I would need a mansion to house them all馃榿

I have an Afremov myself, so I would choose that one 馃┑
They are all nice
OntheroadM
@ImpeccablyImperfect Yeah, he does have an amazing body of work... I'm tempted to just go with his work.

Just adding - If I was to give my opinion, the top one (which is just my kinda style I love - loose and beautiful expression of light)馃)....and the bottom one ....will go great in the same room .
They are calming and relaxing and great for a lounge room where you go to relax .
And. will be absolute stunning features with the colours you have going , and will add upper aesthetic balance to a room that has darker furniture down below .

The flowers are more ....bright , uplifting - perky 馃槒
To me they are more something id like to see in th morning when I have coffee. You know - a brighten my mood type thing .
So personally Id put it in the kitchen .

But then ....that's me.....not. You 馃槉

You do you 馃

Edit :
Just one more thing -.people often put art in a lounge room where they will see it sitting down .
Great idea - doesn't actually execute the way you intend it to in reality .

The reason being, you sit down and pick up a book or turn on the TV and look at that instead .
I highly recommend putting it in relation to your furniture ....as in 'to balance the room as a whole' .
So when you walk into your lounge , you see them - and not only do they relax you , but the whole affect of a balanced room relaxes you before you even sit down .

This way you'll see them more and appreciate them more. 馃槉
OntheroadM
@OogieBoogie Thank you! I really appreciate that you took the time to write all that for me.

I know zip about art... except what I like and what I like is always colorful.

Between you and @Magenta helping me think through my choices, I'm going to get all three, but put the flower one in my study/office where I spend time writing, playing on the computer, and doing me stuff.

I think I may put some other wall decoration in place of a painting where I was going to put the flower painting... that or maybe a people piece of art.
OogieBoogieF
@OntheroadThanks for reading my thoughts on it 馃
just remember that nothing is written in stone.

My sister is an amazing artist and highly creative - and she'd do a whole room, paint it out, decorate it ...and then change it completely a few years later.
It used to sometimes shock me that she could create a whole incredible interior design - and then get rid of it ....even to painting over murals she's done .

But she taught me that interior design isn't a 'one then done' thing .
Whatever choice you make - you can remake it again ....and again ....and again .馃

Theres no rules against moving art around untill it finds it's perfect place.

I habitually use those 3M removable sticky hanging strips untill I find the best spot for something . They save the wall if you're not keen on leaving holes in the wrong spot .

Good luck .

I do love that top one though . I even think I have a very similar one saved. I never thought Id like cityscapes , but those loose impressionistic ones are really something .
Picklebobble256-60, M
Love them.
Especially the 1st and last.

Theres something about that last one 馃グ

I like the waterfall best.

There are no hard fast rules to 'art'.

Well there are, but even the point of knowing them is to know which ones to break to get the feel or affect you want .

And it's the same for the appreciate-or of art .

It also depends how you view your space and what's in it .

Some people focus more on individual things and take pleasure from each one singularly - some like 'the whole affect'.

So, in short ....no one can tell you what you will like 馃し

Hell , I sometimes put shit up ....and then decide a few weeks later that it doesn't really do what I hoped it would do ....and take it down, or rearrange it .

I think thematically art style-wise - they all kinda go together, but the subject matter - wise, the vase of flowers kinda clashes a bit .

The other two are scenes you could walk into .
So they feel different .

But then ....if you love each one for how it makes you feel - then that's the most important thing .

And without really seeing the room , it's hard to say.
And even if I did - it'd be MY taste id be giving - not yours 馃し

It's really just a case of 'suck it and see'馃槀馃し

There's no point in asking other people. You're the one that has to look at them.

I like the top picture best of all.

The 1st one.
I love the top one with the couple. 馃槉

@bijouxbroussard That's my favorite one too.
iamonfire69641-45, F
I think the top picture would go best with those colours. It would be a feature in the room.
