I'll admit, sometimes I harshly knock on the glass when my fish are fighting over food and I point at them

Like: "I can see you picking on the other fish and I dont like it! I got my eye on you, you lil prick"

They probably don't understand, but it distracts them enough for them to temporarily stop fighting.

But to see someone hit their fish breaks my heart

@GLITTER I'm not sure if they understand punishment, but I'm pretty sure they understand and communicate with visual cues,
Some fish change colour to express distress, and some flare their gills to show aggression, holding their mouth open is equivalent to a dog bearing it's teeth etc

They definitely understand that this hand gesture 🤏 means food 😂

But yeah, I could never hit a fish, they my babies 😭
