Stalking a rat.

A few weeks ago a rat chewed a hole in my screen door. I saw a huge rat outside. Im regretting not setting a trap. I left the patio door open slightly not realizing it could still squeeze through. I was sitting on the couch and saw something scurry inside. Then I noticed more movement in the corner but it was gone. I cleared up any food from the kitchen and waited with a stick ready to beat it to Kingdom come. I'm hearing phantom noises and squeaks now but can't catch it.
