@specman I know. You're right. Maybe it's judt high enough that I didn't really disturb them. It's obviously been there for a while. I cut my yard at least once a week and have since spring. So yes, I have been very fortunate not to have gotten attacked. Hornets do not play!

@HappyCamper74 hornets are real big aren’t they? I have what looks like a cross between a bumble bee and a red wasp on steroids flying every now and then around my yard. It has stripes on its tail. I don’t know what it is really. I’ve seen one before.

@specman these are large and black with a little yellow on them.

There are different types of hornets. I have seen something similar to what you are describing. I believe those are called Japanese hornets. They burrow into the ground.

I was stung by hornets a couple of times in my life. They hurt! They continue stinging too. Mean and aggressive
