Hurt and scared coyote

Around 3:30 am a coyote started crying really badly and loudly outside. Not a regular bark or yelp but I one from fear or pain.

It wasn’t in front of my house but nearby. He cried for what seemed like a long time. It was a cry that pierced through your soul. It was a cry of deep pain and sadness

Two of my boys went to look for it but it stopped crying shortly after they left and they couldn’t find it.

I couldn’t go back to sleep after that. I was so sad and worried about the animal

Right now is mating season for coyotes! They make a lot of different sounds. It’s probably not hurt. My advise would be keep your dogs and cats in or on a leash!

@Orangehotrod oh I did not think of that. I will go online and listen to their mating. Sounds and see if it sounds like the horrible noise I heard.

@Jenny1234 we have a farm and I’m out at all times of the night I hear them all the time! A breading fox sometimes sounds like a scream!

@Orangehotrod they sound like old women screaming. So I listened to the coyote mating call and what I heard was definitely not that. Over 12 hours later and I’m still heartbroken and can’t stop thinking about what I heard.

I saw two coyotes the other night. The first one was very thin, rangy looking and had a limp. The second one following it looked healthier, bigger and more robust.
Nature can be harsh sometimes

@Ghostinthemachine it sure can. I know it’s natural but it’s sad to me. My dream would to be to open a huge sanctuary for all the hurt and lonely and scared animals in the world.

Coyotes are very adept at making different sounds for different reasons. May not not have been injured.

@TexChik yes lots of roads so maybe you’re right about it having been hit by a car
