Was it ill? That's not typical behaviour, is it?
BobbyMoeven · 51-55, M
@cuppatea

I don't think so .. It looked healthy , and was running with purpose ,

@BobbyMoeven

I hope it's ok.

Coyotes are everywhere in North and Central America. They're incredible animals. So adaptable and pose almost zero risk to full grown people. The problem when they get in to urban areas are small pets being taken. So a lot of times they're caught and killed. But you can't cull coyotes. Their litters will adjust based on pack size and food availability. Humans are going to need to learn how to live with them.
I'm around them a lot and I find them fascinating. They have about a dozen vocalizations and when you learn some it's really fun to hear them 'talk.' And when you hear what sounds like ten of them going off it's usually just a few. They change their sounds quickly so they sound like a bigger pack. Hope you get some more sightings.
Ynotisay · M
@LordShadowfire They can absolutely do that. If they food from the other sources there's no need. They don't kill just to kill. Hope that's the case. And they're probably keeping rodents way in the process.

@Ynotisay Good. We've got enough problems without rats.
Ynotisay · M
@LordShadowfire Ha. Yeah. Some mammals are little more useful than others.
Well, when that Acme merchandise keeps malfunctioning, they have to find SOMETHING to eat.

I saw a beautiful red fox in the city running full speed in a large empty lot and without any hesitation at all jumped a wood fence into someone’s back yard. It was the most gorgeous creature that I have ever seen. Wish I had a video of that.

@cherokeepatti

I felt exactly the same way when I saw a fox leap a fence in a beautiful public garden my family often visits ...They are so graceful and awesome ...
That is unexpected, and a bit surreal.
We had one run up our street last summer. Heard nails on pavement and saw this weird looking dog.

They're pushing into cities as urban sprawl increases.
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
I was wondering what others had asked. We don't normally see them in the daylight unless they are ill. They try to take down livestock and other animals. We have donkeys in the fields because of them.
BobbyMoeven · 51-55, M
@Fungirlmmm

In The nature paths that meander between our neighborhood , ive spotted , foxes deer and coyotes in the forest ...

Although it was odd and surreal of sorts ,,, it wasn't entirely surprising or unexpected .
ImpeccablyImperfect · 51-55, F
I see them all the time out here.

But still, I hear them more often…and it’s still somewhat eerie
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
@ImpeccablyImperfect There used to be a mega pack near my house. I could hear them some nights. I thought it was cool, but I always had to make sure all our animals were locked up.
ImpeccablyImperfect · 51-55, F
@LordShadowfire oh man, yes lock them up….and when you hear them pretending to be an animal in distress….??? It’s chilling! You just know they’re luring some poor unsuspecting prey over their way 😣
TexChik · F
In broad daylight?
TexChik · F
@BobbyMoeven i would suspect rabies or distemper
BobbyMoeven · 51-55, M
@TexChik

Nope , it was just out scavenging , it showed no signs of rabies or distemper .. It was fleet, fast and aware and coat looked healthy . Our neighbourhood is full of intersecting park paths between neighbourhoods and parkland ...

We have them around here but i have only seen 1 in my hole life. But sometimes you can hear them i think it is always at night when you can hear them. I am kind of scared of them because i think they can eat dogs and i dont want to meet one when i am like walking outdoors or riding my bike or something like that. So i think they are pretty cool but i want them to leave me and our dog alone.

He's probably hungry 😞
Geez, that woulda been freaky .
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
I've never met a coyote myself. I do know it's becoming more and more common as they lose territory to the weird hairless apes.
