Griffith park pony ride closes after 74 years. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Good or bad this parks pony ride is now to close. For me as a child it was a memorial and iconic place. I won't make a judgement as to whether this is a good or bad thing. I simply can not make a judgement. Plus of course I'm totally biased...

An iconic attraction at Griffith Park will be shuttering for good by the end of the year.

The Griffith Park Pony Rides, which have been in operation for more than 70 years, will be closing permanently on Dec. 21, owner Steve Weeks announced Sunday.

Weeks made the announcement on Facebook and said the decision was made by the City of Los Angeles to not renew the businessโ€™s contract.

โ€œAfter 74 years serving the children and parents of Los Angeles, this iconic institution will be closed forever by order of the City. You have all followed our fight against these few radical animal rights activists. Despite our year long fight to answer the untrue statements of these individuals, our efforts were not heard,โ€ Weeks wrote.

@cherokeepatti Is this a major park? It sounds like one.

@PoetryNEmotion No it was the traveling circus.I think there is only one other traveling circus now and it comes in the spring, probably smaller. Even The Barnum & Bailey seemed so much smaller a few years ago when we went compared to the 3-ring circus in the 1960โ€™s in Topeka, Kansas that I went to.

@cherokeepatti the other was Ringling brothers carnival.

@DeWayfarer When I was in 4th grade living in a small town in Missouri a little circus came to town. It was the first one I had ever been to and it was fun. They had an elephant by the entrance of the tent that we could get close to.

@cherokeepatti back in the sixies the small carnivals where setup in department store parking lots. The one yearly carnival in Garden Grove was in Whitefront's parking lot.

Each year though the animals were different which is why I could ride so many.

@DeWayfarer There is a large local grocery store here that sets up an ice rink on the edge of the parking lot after Thanksgiving for a few weeks in the winter. Seems to be a popular activity.

@cherokeepatti there's a really small excuse for a traveling circus here in this town. No animals any more. ๐Ÿ˜ž

@DeWayfarer Animals are being banned. Those animal rights activists. The costs associated with animals. Few people know animals anymore and their habits. Not profitable. And animals are not meant to be paraded for public pleasure.

@DeWayfarer not near as fun. It was the animals we wanted to see.
