Alcohol raises blood estrogen up to 300%. It's why heavy beer drinkers usually look pregnant. It affects your system like sugar. If you give it up long enough, the cravings go away.

@faery thanks

Nothing will happen or change if you can't commit to full open sobriety, and that depends on your relationship with alcohol. Are you just looking to cut back or control it? Or at rock bottom?
Is it a daily need, where you're telling yourself (can be subconsciously), you need it to move forward with your day? Do you hide it, as in you go out of your way to make (best attempt) sure no one is aware of (they are).
If any of these were answered yes, see your PCP, and ask if there's anything that could be done to help with quitting alcohol alongside your anxiety/depression treatment.
Next let everyone you are close to know that you're attempting sobriety, family and close friends should do their best, to help back-up you up. If everyone is aware of it, then that's a large part of mitigating the anxiety during the process. A good support team helps a lot.

@Levenrack I hide it and I am at rock bottom with this. I just wish I never started with alcohol so I wouldnt have reached this point. Severe alcoholism runs in my family. My uncle has the hugest beer belly. I sometimes laugh myself off, but I realize that I have reached a bad point.

@DragonfruitHazelnuts The #1 thing is being honest with yourself. Doing so will create a space where you'll be able to work out of this.
Day Zero I went and spoke with all affected family members, about my bout with Alcohol. The initial reaction was one of clear relief and was extremely welcoming.
Next, was a visit to my PCP. I was all ready on Pristiq for anxiety treatment and was prescribed Acamprosate to help with the dependence.
And finally I just had to dig in... the first week I slept a lot and listened to my body, it didn't approve of what I was trying to do. I was miserable and tried my best not to leave the house for the first 2 weeks. Also I didn't notice if the Campral was working or not.
Week 3 I began to begrudgingly do more things outside. Taking walks and the fresh air, was calming. Week 4, I discontinued the Campral. I sensed no change in the coming days, so I was still moody. Week 5- Present eventually days just melded together and I could walk through a gas station or store and not blink an eye at alcohol.
The best thing though was, when my kids finally visited....
Alcohol was not at the forefront of my thoughts. Good Luck.

Also, you know that opened beer in the fridge will be nasty, right?
DragonfruitHazelnuts · 26-30, M
@Levenrack it tastes nasty but I must admit Ive been drinking it anyway. I left a beer out over night after partyin then drank next day. It tastes awful, like bread sort of, bread in bevarage form, not sure why. Im lazy Im sloppy, the beer went in the fridge but I didnt expect it to be good for tomorrow.
Levenrack · 46-50, M
@DragonfruitHazelnuts Yeah same. I'd have a beer that I'd just cracked open have a few sips and then crash for a few hours, wake up then pick up the warm flat beer and continue the bingeing.
DragonfruitHazelnuts · 26-30, M
@Levenrack Yeah alcoholism is awful.
Find something else that can distract you long enough that your body can go through the withdrawal.

@ArtieKat I dont understand what you mean, my mom fed me alcohol as a kid (she didnt love us, so I was drunk aged 5, she was a shitty mom, tell u that, then as an adult i noticed i was a severe alcholic, but im trying to fix it thats why i only had two sips of the beer since youre not supposed to mix alcohol with anti depressants), so thats what I mean by that. Im gonna join AA, thats for sure. I looked it up in my city where the nearest ones meet, they meet at saturdays near the mall.

Quit buying it for starters and just get something else to drink like a soda or water
