The struggle

In 2011 I quit drinking because of how it was effecting my behavior and attitude. The "fun drinking" made way for anger and poor judgement.

I made it to 2019 when I had champagne on my wedding anniversary and that started the downward spiral again. So much that it didn't matter if it was 4pm or 4am, I was downing 4 to 5 shots of whiskey in a matter of ten minutes, daily.

It put me deep into depression and everyone became my enemy in my mind. I've reached the lowest point in my life.

Today, I'm 36 days sober and it has been a struggle. Last week especially. When the mind overthinks everything I want to dive back into the bottle to numb it all.

I'm staying the course.

This is been a very inspiring read. You are strong, courages, and committed. Life throws curve balls, and you are now dodging them. I'm really proud of you as I'd say those 36 days were extremely challenging. Hang in there and take it day by day just as you have been. Your stronger than temptation and you deserve to be sober! ❤️

@Spumoni I hope you enjoyed that peace.
Over thinking can naturally creep up and it's a rotten game changer.
Glad you got the peace! 🤗🤗🤗

@Dusty101 Had an AA meeting last night, met a guy that is pretty involved in the program. He called me this morning to check on me. Last night was tough.

You keep it up my friend. I’ve had some people very close to me who’ve dealt with the same thing. It’s a struggle no doubt. One of the closest people I know told me it’s an hour by hour thing, not a day by day. That’s how he got through it. If you want to PM me for more info feel free.
Spumoni · 46-50, M
@JesseInTX I definitely feel the hour by hour feeling. I went for a run today when I had the urges again.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@Spumoni I didn’t call him every hour but when I did call and ask how he was his reply was “it’s been a good hour” or “I’ve been struggling this hour”. 18 months later and there are more good hours than bad. Break it down small and each one is an achievable accomplishment 👍🏻

Congrats for making this change .... keep doing what you're doing ... and don't look too far down the road ... that can be daunting ... it's a one day at a time thing ... wishing you well ... 🙏

@Harmonium1923 indeed.
I’m proud of you and you know that.
The challenges and temptation are not over. But every day that you win over those challenges is a day you make yourself stronger.

I believe you can do this. Just always keep in mind what and who you are doing this for.

🤗

Today makes 40 days sober, and by far one of my best days. Took a long nap next to the lake, read a book. Peace.
