How long does a harmless addiction last?

In 2011 I was cheated on after only 3 months of engagement. Right after that I got into pvc and plastic. I don't consider it to be harmful but after a traumatic event does an addiction last a lifetime?

Its a coping mechanism that not everyone adopts to mask thier trauma. Its up to the individual person to change. But change can often hurt because you have to face your trauma. Bottom line is its up to you to be who you choose to be.
