Name pronunciation, is your name tricky to pronounce and do people change it if they struggle?

Does it bother you...

I always ask people to say their name if I've never seen it written or said before.
People do struggle with my name, it's Rick, but for some reason it's often mispronounced with a 'p'. 🤷‍♂️😅
WelshLovely · 46-50, F
@Mindfulness I can't believe that.....well maybe 😉😂😂
Domking · 61-69, M
@Mindfulness you are sure they don't replace the r with a d? 🤣
@Domking pretty much the same end result if you're British.

Yes but noone uses it
DrWatson · 70-79, M
My last name is difficult for many people. I am used to spelling it slowly for people.
@DrWatson When I was in school I loved the way the Italian kids’ names sounded; Dardi, Taddei, DeVincenzi, Geraci, Ruggiero, Basano, Fanuchi, Tognoli…
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
It is not tricky, but it does look unusual to most English speakers. I don't mind people getting it wrong at first, but when they don't listen to my pronunciation and keep getting it wrong that's plain rude 😟
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@SunshineGirl that makes sense. Would annoy me too
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
In fairness my last name is objectively not spelled how it’s pronounced
It’s a little annoying but I’m used to it
Though tbh I’m more surprised when someone says it correctly
Folks always get mine wrong because of all the silent letters and absence of vowels
WelshLovely · 46-50, F
Pronunciation of mine isn't too bad, but if people hear it, they can't seem to spell it!
Lilymoon · F
Only Asians. I get called Riry 🤣
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@Lilymoon It's a tough name. Lie-lee! 😂
Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
Nope. It’s pretty straightforward
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
My last name is tricky.
Gumbodidlo · C
@Harmonium1923 Harmonium Tricky.... good name🤔

My last name is my old married name. I kept it because all my credit history was in that name. It's French Canadian in origin, and people don't know how to pronounce it. I always have to say it for them, and then explain that the ex's family Americanized the pronunciation.

I have quite the easy name
supersnipe · 61-69, M
The way it is spelt suggests a different pronunciation from what is actually the case. I'm not precious about it - there are more important things in life. Blame my ancestor for messing with the spelling!
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Not the pronouncing of it but certainly the spelling.
And no matter how many times you go through it with them....🙄
Rutterman · 46-50, M
No, my name is very easy to pronounce. Never encountered anyone who had a problem saying it correctly.
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
No it’s not difficult to pronounce but many have a problem in spelling it 😂😂
It's not at all difficult but I've still had weird ass pronunciations
Selah ·
No it's simple but it has 9 letters so people give up halfway through.
No, it's easy.
My last name’s pretty basic, but there are a few ways to pronounce my first name. I accept most attempts, but inside I feel a little sad that no one’s likely to ever to pronounce it the way my mother, maternal grandmother (and aunt) did, now that they’re all gone.
Yeah.....for Aussies it is.

I can usually pick a European coz they get it right.
Which ia always a complete suprise.

I get the kids at work to call me Bob, its just easier 😏
Some. Yes. Normally go by a nickname
DDonde · 31-35, M
My name is very easy.
NinaTina · 26-30, F
You may call me nina, you may call me tina. Or just call me both ninatina
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
It’s not hard to pronounce at all
