Music. I've tried to learn to play three different musical instruments over the years, and failed each time.

@SomeMichGuy Yes. Yes. Baritone saxophone (5th grade band — I was the only kid big enough to lift it).

@DunningKruger The reed instruments can be finicky, and any wind instrument is a bit to handle.
For enduring playing, a guitar or keyboard does make sense.
What stopped you on each?

@SomeMichGuy After 5th grade, we moved. I had been renting the saxophone from the school, and the new school didn't do that. I've tried multiple times to learn guitar. I could just never get my fingers to work properly. I could just never get my head around doing different things with each hand at the same time.

@DunningKruger The problem with any string or woodwind or brass is that you need a lot of muscle memory because the instrument may not help you with how a given sound should be produced (and the bowed strings have various ways to make the same pitch!).
The big hurdle on the piano IS making your hands play together. It takes practice, but I agree it is the biggest hurdle beginners often have. Overcoming it helps your brain & mind, I think.

@DunningKruger And I know that instrument costs are a BIG deal!

@SomeMichGuy The thing is I own an OK-enough guitar and a very nice keyboard, but I don't have the time to do even the stuff that's higher on my list of importance for non-work activities, so there it is.

@DunningKruger Well, may you get that time--sounds as though you have a thirst for musical expression.
