I Am a Diabetic On An Insulin Pump

I have been diabetic since I was little. I am 18 now and I had an insulin pump six years ago. The pump is in a pouch which clips onto my bra. And delivers insulin every three minutes. Through a cannula in my stomach.

Have you looked into the Omnipods? It's tubeless and you only have to carry a transmitter around to punch in your carbs.

I don’t think my country is that advanced. @DefiantHeart

@DefiantHeart Do u have one yourself, (omnipod)? My sister is diabetic and has been on a pump 2 years. Teh tubing always gets stuck and it falls off her pants.🙄

No. I don’t know what one is. @Coralmist
@Coralmist I am not a diabetic, but I work in the medical field. I went to medical school to be an endocrinologist, but decided to go another route when I graduated.
With the omnipod, there is only one piece she would stick that holds her insulin and feeds her drip, (basil) and bolus (insulin per meal) when she adds her carbs per meal.
She places the pod on the same sites she would use a syringe.
The pod is good for 10 days and the omnipod also acts like her testing device, so she only has to carry the transmitter around.
It's covered by all insurance.

Is she wearing the Dexcom as well? There's a new device from that company called the G6, that you no longer need to test yourself, and that device stays on you for 10 days at a time.
Also covered by all insurance.

Ok. We don’t need insurance. All health needs are covered by the NHS. Have been since 1948.
I am grateful for the Health Service. As a very little girl I had to inject my insulin with a suringe. Now I just change my cannula every three days. And the insulin cartridge in my pump. It’s great. @DefiantHeart
@LiliHaf Hopefully soon the tubeless will be available around your way!

Maybe. But I don’t know what it is! I’m ok for now. It don’t stop me. Well just hypos. @DefiantHeart
@LiliHaf How's your A1C?
LiliHaf · 22-25, F
Normal. @DefiantHeart
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@DefiantHeart Oh thanks for that info! Just relayed it to my sister. She says that her insurance, she's pretty sure, does not cover it :( But fingers crossed maybe one day they will

Maybe you live in America. Here we don’t pay for health. It’s free. I wish every one in UK realised what that means. Instead of taking it for granted. @Coralmist

@LiliHaf Wow that is REALLY great :)
LiliHaf · 22-25, F
Yes. It really is. We have had free health care since 1940 something. And people complain! About the NHS. No way. We have the best health care in the world. @Coralmist

@LiliHaf Wow where do you live ?
LiliHaf · 22-25, F
Wales. It’s UK. @Coralmist
