Is it rude to not respond to messages?

I mean I guess I could just ignore them but I feel bad about it. Problem is that most people that message me are actually pretty boring or big time pervs... can’t people have cool interesting conversations anymore?

Messages from strangers that I've never interacted with on the boards, pervy, or one word messages, no, it's not rude. To me it's like sitting in a bar or at a bus stop. I'm not obligated to speak with everyone who approaches me.

With people I like and am friendly with, I respond when I have the time and something to say. I can't maintain a daily back and forth with multiple people. I don't have that much time to dedicate to this site. I hop on and off. The people who I speak with understand that it isn't personal and I'll message when I have the time and something to say. If they don't understand, I can't do anything about it. That's out of my control.

FWIW, I come here to have fun, procrastinate, and interact with people on the boards. I'm not looking for anything deep and meaningful. If I happen to build some friendships with a few individuals, that's icing on the cake.

I think it is more rude to send pervy or boring messages.

@seeandhear happens way too often but you find a few gems here and there that are genuinely good people just want to get to know other people:)

Hard one... Many messages just go straight in the bin, others can get clingy...a fine line between being polite and looking after yourself ...

No ,its not rude . You dont have to talk to people you dont want to. It would be rude to your self to do so
QuarantinedKayla · 22-25, F
@PepsiColaP you’re right!
Carver · 31-35, F
Perhaps. But at the same time, people aren’t entitled to a response.

That is why is ignore nearly every message I get and only ever chat with established friends anymore. My inbox has been filled with conversations of substance since, lol.

I’m sure some would consider it rude, but you can’t please everyone, especially those who feel entitled to a reply. But there are times when you feel you have nothing further to add to the conversation...and that’s okay despite the bitterness that may be projected from others. Protect your energy, man. If it’s seen as rude in doing so then you’ve inadvertently excused someone from your life who you probably didn’t need it in to begin with.

No. Some users mainly men can be quite creepy and other users just say “hi, hey, or heya” and nothing else.

I ALWAYS respond. I block people who are pervs, and usually block the geniuses who send me, "hi", and that's all they've got. How about, "Hi, do you want to die of boredom from my message?" I block those people, too.

Why on earth do you feel guilty about it? That's like feeling guilty for hanging up on a telemarketer.

@4meAndyou omg I hate the hi how r u and the what do u do for fun like dude do u actually care about that?

I actually like messaging with people more lately than I used to BUT I think a lot of us don’t respond to every message from every random person. You’ll figure out what you are comfortable with as you go along. You don’t owe everyone a response though. It’s your choice who you want to engage with.

I certainly don't find it rude to ignore rude messages.

At the same time it's kinda cool that you are human enough to feel a little remorse at doing so. Kind people are too few and far between here.
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
My general guidelines include:
- If we've interacted in a public post, I'll respond.
- If we haven't interacted, but their profile seems like an actual person, I may respond.
- If their profile doesn't have a picture, doesn't have posts, and hides all their public comments, I won't respond.
- If their profile has an overwhelming number of sex-based groups they follow, I won't respond.
- If their opening message is sexual in nature, or a single word, I won't respond.

I've had far too many messages that go poorly or nowhere at all, and I'm tired of having my time wasted, so I'm much more picky these days.

depends on how rude or boring,

sometimes I will start a conversation just to make them realize how boring it is
QuarantinedKayla · 22-25, F
@RoxClymer why would you do that

I don't. If they are nasty or speaking disrespectfully I ignore them like the plague.
If it’s a friend particularly a close friend then I would say that yes it’s rude to not respond to a message eventually. If it’s someone like on a site like this or other site where you don’t know the person then no it’s not rude.
I’m not here to make anybody happy. I honestly DGAF if I’m a rude bitch. To be fair, they ain’t even seen rude until they get me pissed on post. Once I go into attack mode that shit’s on like Donkey Kong.

I ignore many of em, not worth responding to.
QuarantinedKayla · 22-25, F
@jackson55 the ones I’ll ignore are the hi or hey, hellos
jackson55 · M
@QuarantinedKayla Being a female you’ll get plenty of those.
DaveCapeTown · 41-45, M
I totally get you... it's hard to establish one's personality and depth of character on here... Replying to stories for me is few and far between :)
