@samnsi That is more likely to be the case given your age. It still happened in schools in my era though

@SW-User It wasn't banned in UK private schools until about the year 2000.

@Sharon I thought even in private schools it was banned before that. My memory must be going lol

@SW-User England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland banned it in different years but all around 2000. After the state school ban in 1986, private schools could only use it with privately funded students. Students whose fees were paid by the local authority were exempt.

@Sharon Well I never knew that! I counted as state funded in a private school. Didn't help though, they were still whacking away when I left.
