I don't eat Pears anymore

As a youngster in the 70's we had pears that were dripping with juice, soft, grey coloured pulp and stringy.
Have not seen a Pear like that for decades.
Now Pears are rock hard, white, without the stringiness of yesteryear.
I miss the fruit of decades ago.
