My ex was also very controlling. It is not good, and it is not funny. Just wait till he starts doing things like searching through your purse looking for gosh knows what.
People who are that controlling were traumatized as children. They are usually the children of alcoholic or abusive parents, whose lives were SO out of control that the only way they can hold on to their own sanity is to try to control everything and everyone around them to try to keep themselves safe.
If you threaten his control, he may devolve into violent behaviors to preserve it, so be very careful. This should be a giant red flag.
