I Hate Cleaning

Okay, so I went too long without cleaning my NON self cleaning oven. 馃槺

It has turned into a three day job. I have 6 cans of fume free overnight cold oven cleaning spray and I don't know if it's going to be enough.馃槺馃槀

NOT because the oven is as dirty as all that...or that enormous, but because you get halfway through the cans and they stop spraying! Easy Off is worse than the generic brands for that.

All right...maybe I bought too many rolls of paper towels. I have only used one roll of Bounty so far...and I bought 12 rolls.

I am on day two now...and I've had to spray the oven a second time, because there is some really hard, really baked on black stuff that just won't come off even with my stainless steel scrubber!. That means that tomorrow, the nightmare will continue.

I can't reach the back of the oven. I sprayed the heck out of it, and I can use the oven until I get the oven cleaner off...but my arms are just too short to reach! I am having to dip paper towel wads in hot water, and try to clean back there with my old barbecue tongs. I am trying to figure out, now, if I should try to rig some sort of spray bottle so I can get water on all the bits that are wiry or weird or unscrubbible back there.

It is an electric oven, and that also means that the entire inside is full of mysterious wires, parts that can't be removed but can only be shifted, and odd little clips that fall off...I have no idea where they came from or how to put them back.

I have a full garbage bag full of nasty slimy oven yuck, and my kitchen floor is covered with paper towels to sop up the brown drips before they stain the tiles.

So give me your blessings for tomorrow, when I will face my nightmare again, and pray for me that when I am done with the oven, it will still work. 馃槀

Pour some vinegar in a roasting pan, turn on the oven for an hour, turn off oven and go to bed. Next day scrub with some baking soda.

@curiosi I might try that tomorrow night if the overnight stuff doesn't do it.

I used a steamer on mine on some tough spots before turning on the self cleaner. Also some citrus cleaner might help cut grease.

@SageWanderer I haven't cleaned this thing for a long time, and I am trying to remember if these hard, flat baked on bits are what I left on there the last time because I couldn't get them off. There's no grease left at all in there. This black stuff is like enamel but harder. Maybe I should market it??? 馃槀

@4meAndyou I bet it鈥檚 baked on grease. And it gets hard as a rock! I might try the vinegar idea next time.
4meAndyouF
@SageWanderer I will...it's a good idea. I've sprayed it, and it has to sit overnight before I can try cleaning it again, but then I will do the vinegar thing.

Turn it up as high as it will go, then go to the movies.
When you return home, it should have burned off any residual crud with... or taken the rest of the house with it.

Ovens are the worst. The self cleaning ovens are somewhat decent, but they get so hot.

@lilacs I just hope this thing still works when I get done with it...馃槀

Shut one of these in your oven for an hour it works a treat. 馃き
