Everyone likes to be treated with kindness and respect so why is not everyone kind and respectful?

:)

Some people are so damaged or so damn mean they don't get it.
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi cherokeepatti
I knew someone like that and she became pretty nice as she got older - in part at least I like to think because I did not give her back what she dished out.
Best wishes
:)

@sogdianrock We need to set examples for others to teach them and if they persist with disrespect set boundaries, hopefully some will come around and make the change.
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi cherokeepatti
I agree. You are very wise.

people dont have respect.. the whole treat others how you want to be treated. its more like people will do bad to others and want to be treated better. ever have a bad boss. someone who mistreats people but yet demands respect. people act the same way. they dont care about their actions or behaviors they are only seeking acceptance and respect just not dishing it out.

hi djones
Do you think it would help if mindfulness, meditation, philosophy, ethics, life skills - were taught in schools? How do people learn to be good citizens?
Best wishes

Many lack self awareness, look outward instead of inward. Require things from others they won't adhere to. It's easier to expect than it is to accomplish.
Just thoughts.
MagentaF
@cherokeepatti
Indeed I think that's true. Something that brings them into awareness and humbles them. We all have to fall off our own pedestal at times. Ouch! ;-)
new2531-35, F
it takes a lot to really change someone. people resist
MagentaF
@new25
We can only try to better ourselves, and that's a full time job. 馃槵

Not necessarily. And people are more complex, life lacking a level of supportive equality. Sets off emotions.

hi Literaturegirl 路
thanks. I will reflect.

@sogdianrock I think some people have trust issues and feel they are being manipulated when someone is consistently nice to them, perhaps because of their childhood environment. Probably why nice guys sometimes lament on being rejected.
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi cherokeepatti
wise words. Thanks.

Kindness is innate, some people are born with it, some are not. Respect is learnt, some people learn it, some don't.
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi Cierzo
interesting. Seems true.
Perhaps kindness could be genetically identified so people could be aware of their predispositions and maybe even for others to know what they are dealing with.

There are people who are miserable and are not happy unless others are to, same with people that aren't happy unless there is a lot of drama going on, they need to start some them selfs even if it's with lies coming out there mouths. That's my opinion anyways
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi Footsugar123
That's messed up! Interesting opinion. Maybe that is it. I will need to reflect on it.
Best wishes

A very good question. Some people are defensive and feel the need to strike out at others. Others have been deeply hurt and want to hurt others before they get hurt again.
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi SweetMae
Are these people then ill? What can be done to help the? How to change them back into kind and respectful citizens? Are citizens expected to be kind and respectful? were they ever really?
best wishes
:)
SweetMae70-79, F
@sogdianrock Kindness can help some people, even after they strike out.
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi SweetMae
Oh I agree. I do not really see anything else that can be done except modelling positive behaviour. I am a firm believer in the idea that you treat people as you wish them to be.
best wishes

Imho, some people feel entitled to kindness, even if they don't give it in return.
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi Wionnnnn
interesting and seems true also. Maybe there is a form of psychopathology at work?

@sogdianrock perhaps.
Loretta7846-50, F
This is a very good question. I am interested for the answers here... 馃
Loretta7846-50, F
@sogdianrock No. I am even not able to be mean.
In reality I say something like: I am not agree with you but you are free to have your own opinion," "I don't want to argue," or something like that. When it's getting worse I leave the place.
Online it's almost the same. But when people are getting too rude here I block and report them.
It's not right when people are getting rude. But I don't want to put myself in injustice.
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi Loretta78
I have a wise friend who believes that there are niceos and meaneos and that is all there is to it. You appear to be a niceo.
Best wishes
:)
Loretta7846-50, F
@sogdianrock Thanks. I am flattered. 馃槉
But to be honest: I am ALWAYS polite - even when people are impolite to me. And sometimes my politeness and that I always stay quiet even when they are shouting provokes them still more. 馃檮
Although most of times I really don't want to provoke anybody. :-(

Human frailty.
Maybe robots, AI and integration will intervene and alter things, who knows.
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi Nimbus
Sadly creations tend to reflect their builder's faults as well as accomplishments. Nice try though.

vanity vanity all is vanity.
Do you give respect to others? If so why? If not how is that received?

Mine was a question not a statement. I suppose it could be taken as rhetorical question I suppose but it wasn't intended to be so.
Best wishes

@sogdianrock I was going to answer this but I noticed how you mistreated this user. It is rhetorical question
sogdianrock61-69, M
hi LockedinTime
I meant no disrespect. I was genuinely looking forward to an answer is all.
I do not agree the question is rhetorical. If I give that impression I did not intend it.
Best wishes
:)
