I Am Fascinated By Human Behavior

Sciguy Had A Great Fall...

I was running errands for my parents this past Sunday as I do every weekend. One of the stops was the pharmacy.

I won't mention the name, but it is a chain pharmacy with the initials CVS...

As I was about to enter, two guys were exiting. I moved over to enter on the other side of the door opening.

Unbeknownst to me, some of the snow that fell days before had melted and refrozen - forming the dreaded black ice.

In an instant, I was flat on my back...

(Note: This is not me in the photo, but more or less depicts the result)

It literally took me several seconds to assess what had happened. It then took another several seconds to assess whether or not I was seriously injured.

The two guys who left the store must have heard me yell as I fell (I do recall letting out an audible "Whoa!) or must have heard the "thud" as I hit the ground.

They both came over to render assistance. The fall had sent my keys flying, which one of the guys picked up and returned.

Once I realized I hadn't cracked open my skull or broken a hip, I accepted their offer to assist me to my feet.

While such behavior might be expected in rural areas, it is somehow less expected in more urban areas.

The point of the post (yes, there is one) is that there are still some people out there who care about their fellow human beings.

As a post script, my neck, lower back, left shoulder and left pectoral muscle are still quite sore, but on the mend.

To add insult to injury, however, I am now in the midst of a cold...

I am so, so sorry to hear of your fall. You may be more severely injured than you realize. It is almost always the case with auto accidents that 3-4 days later injuries show up you didn't realize you had on the first day. Please visit your local emergency room, tell them how you fell, and ask them to look you over. I say this because I was in a minor accident..a woman on her cell phone rear ended me. I did go to the hospital, and I was okay, but three days later one entire side of my face sagged down and it appeared to be a stroke (it wasn't)...but if it had been, I would not have been able to work. If you don't go in for treatment and you don't report it (how it happened and where) and you have problems later, there will be no insurance money available to take care of your expenses.
sciguy18M
@4meAndyou I did report it to the store - not that they are going to do anything about it. In the event I need to pursue this, I'm sure the surveillance video captured it all...

Good, but you do have to follow up with a visit to the ER. If you don't, and you discover later that you have a permanent back injury, (God forbid) any claim you make in future will be ignored and dismissed.

Applies lots and lots and lots of plasters....and kisses each bit better first.
sciguy18M
@pennynoodles Is that like Devonshire clotted cream?
pennynoodles56-60, F
Well..... I don't think so. It is the imaginary cream that a nurse once gave to my adult son when he went to see her on set with a cold. @sciguy18
sciguy18M
@pennynoodles Ah, sympathy cream...
DanielChristensen46-50, M
It happens brother. I've been dropping everything lately
sciguy18M
@DanielChristensen Yeah, I guess it happens to everyone - although I would have been okay skipping my turn...

I am so sorry you fell and you're not feeling well (from the effects of the fall and your cold. Boo). I hope you feel better soon, and I'm glad those men showed some compassion and helped you. I probably would have laughed (once I knew you weren't seriously injured). :) :*
sciguy18M
@ChampagneOnIce I guess it's okay to laugh as long as no one is seriously hurt...
ChampagneOnIce51-55, F
@sciguy18 That's just the kind of snarky friend I am. ;) (But I'm also the first to help if it's needed.)
MagentaF
Ouch. I've done that and have also laid there laughing as I'm starting to hurt. 馃槼

I am so glad you are ok though and on the mend. It's great to see you here. For your cold may I offer 馃嵉
MagentaF
I'm sorry, I'm not trying to make light of it. But I'm quirky like that.

Haha, I can imagine. Did you get hooked on soap operas? ;-)
sciguy18M
@Magenta I've certainly laughed at myself, but those were times where the only thing I hurt was my pride.

I did not watch any soap operas. However, I am now familiar with the phrase "You ARE the father."
MagentaF
I'm thankful you have no breaks or major injuries. 馃挆@sciguy18

It's a good thing that fall left you with nothing more than a bit of bruising and no broken bones.
And maybe you could enlighten us with the reasons why we all prescribe chicken soup for those nasty colds.
sciguy18M
@diablesse Yes. I suspect that the very thick winter coat I was wearing did cushion the blow somewhat. I am also just lucky that my head did not hit the pavement. Perhaps I will post something about chicken soup - when I feel up to it...
diablesse56-60, F
I hope you feel better soon and if we lived closer, I would have brought over some chicken soup to help you feel better faster.
sciguy18M
@diablesse Thanks. That's very sweet of you.

Wish you well. I love the mountain folks here. Everyone helps each other out. Yes, it is real nice to know there are folks who still care. psstt... we are getting too old to have bad falls.
sciguy18M
@Echoing Thanks. Yes, I am very lucky I was not seriously hurt. I think the very thick winter coat I was wearing certainly cushioned the fall.
akindheart61-69, F
i sure hope you are ok. another of my friends took a tumble on the ice.
sciguy18M
@akindheart I'm still sore, but getting better very slowly...
akindheart61-69, F
@sciguy18 be careful!! we need you
SW-User
it never rains, it pours eh? .. take care. 馃
sciguy18M
@SW-User That's enough rain for a while...
Oh, my ! I鈥檓 sorry you fell, and glad you were not badly injured. How awesome that people were kind ! I鈥檝e caught cold this winter, too ! 馃ぇ馃
Take care, my friend. 馃
sciguy18M
@bijouxbroussard Thanks. Sounds like your cold was from visiting sick friends. Who knows where I got mine. This too, shall pass...
