Should I tear down the fence,

Poll - Total Votes: 3
Tear down the fence so neighbor will have to buy another one.
Leave the fence up, hoping it won't fall in on my car.
Keep spending my whole paycheck buying more boards for the fence each week.

There's a fence at my driveway, separating my yard from my neighbors. It's my fence.
He has a large dog that keeps jumping on it, and the fence is leaning into my driveway, about to fall in.
I spent a lot of money I didn't need to spend buying boards, and my roommate nailed it back up for me, but a week later, his dog has jumped on it, knocking it halfway down again.
I was thinking about removing the fence altogether, so that way, he would have to buy a fence himself if he wanted one up. We do both have dogs. Not sure of any zoning laws in my city yet.
What would you do?

I wouldn’t tear it down because it sounds like they have a pretty big and strong dog that you probably don’t want having free access to you, those who live with you, your own dog and your property as a whole
Your neighbor should be paying for the repairs since it’s their dog damaging the fence
And I’m sure if they start having to pay for it they’ll either get their dog under control or build a new fence where they don’t need to worry about it

I would tell the neighbor that you are losing money trying to maintain the fence due to their dog. I'd suggest double fencing, each paying for their own side. Yours shouldn't need new materials, just some repair to straighten, after they put their side up.

@SW-User good idea 💡

Had a similar situation. Talked to my neighbor, and we both put up new fences so we had double the fence in that area.
I'd discuss it with the neighbor before doing anything
Not every neighbor will be as understanding, though.

Offer to pay half and the neighbor pays the other half to erect a stronger fence.

If it's your fence and his dog broke it, he's responsible for the damage and the cost to fix or replace it. If you take it down, there is no guarantee he will build a new one in its place.

@Dolimyte I'm thinking he might, because his front fence he put up, he bought himself, but the part connecting it is mine. It's a weird situation 😕
Make the neighbor pay to repair the fence and report them for not having control of their dog.

@SooperSarah he refused, saying it was my fence..
@Mardrae that his dog destroyed. All the more reason for him to pay for it

Electricity.

The dog next door ate our fence little by little and the neighbor is a jerk. We told him he had to replace it and it would be nice to do it civilly. Guess he got the hint and he gave us the money.

@Coldplay He won’t ever get married at this point 😂

@Keepitsimple no good woman would put up with that. I'm old school.
Mardrae · 61-69, F
@Keepitsimple wow, you got lucky!
Nanori · F
Poison the fence and glue shattered glass to it
SpaceJesus · 41-45
Maybe the Chinese rocket will land on it, taking care of the problem for you
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
Try talking with the neighbour's first about your concerns, hopefully they will see reason, if not then that's when the fun starts. I wish you the best👍

@Justenjoyit thank you 😊
