I Love Stories That Touch My Heart
The sun was shining as I lay on my back in the cool water. I was drifting down the river again, I do this a lot, every day in fact.
The ocean is salty, but up here on the river there is fresh water and it feels nice on my body.
Warm sun, soft water, I close my eyes and drift out to sea.
My mind goes back to the last hunt, the fast swimming, the quick changes in the water, the closeness of it, so close I
could almost taste it, then I have it, right under me and I sink my teeth into it, deep into its flesh, and the blood
flows freely and the thrashing starts, but soon after it gives its life to me and I tear its belly open and devour the insides.
I love my food fresh, fresh and still moving is the best, nothing can be better than this.
I smell him then, he is shadowing me. I see him coming up for air and looking at me. I am not trying to hide anything, let him
look I say, it doesn't matter. I can't help but look back though, what if he has something bad in mind for me? I don't know him,
is he mad at me? Have I broken some rule?
I turn and swim toward the river again, I see him following, up the river we go, up to my favorite starting point, there are
rapids here, not too big, just fun and safe. I stretch out on my back and start to drift with him watching, then I see him do
the same thing, we are too pieces of driftwood floating down the river.
I get hung on a rock for a moment, just long enough for him to catch up, and I feel him touch me, our heads bump and we both smile,
he has a nice face.
Together we float down the river, spinning and bouncing, happy and smiling, then he hits a rock and I feel him leave me, my
heart feels suddenly lonely, I miss him already, but then suddenly he is back, underneath me, pulling at me, and I take a breath
and swim under. He takes my hand and we swim down, down deep in the river and he shows me a shining rock, the color of gold,
laying here in the River, so pretty and I smile at him and he smiles back and we are in love.
Swimming back to the surface we resume our floating, closer now, hugging, always touching.
Suddenly there is a sound from the shore.. "Look Mommy.. Otters"
