Aesthetic goals of tattoos

I have been accused of being vain because I got a fairly large tattoo on my ribcage but I actually think that getting tattoos to hide, distract, people from their body is just as (if not more) likely. The logic behind it is that other people would judge the tattoo and not their body.

I know people get tattoos for many different reasons. Paying homage to a loved one who passed away, alligience to country/club, signal a change in their life. I’m referring to people who get tattoos done just for aesthetic reasons.

Any thoughts?

I can see that. I got a tattoo on my chest because I'm small there and hate being judged. Then I got one on my thigh cause I like my legs and want the attention there.

@KickfaceK I hadn't even considered that the same person could use it both ways. *mind blown*

I don't think I know anyone who got a tattoo to hide something or distract from a body part.

Most I know who have tatts, have a story for it's meaning to them.

@EuphoricTurtle I feel a little bad giggling when I read that...

@Starcrossed Dammit, now that I read it again it sounds really wrong....must clear mind of image!!!!

I have tattoos myself and I got them for myself I never gave any thought to what anyone else would think of them nor did I care I got them for me not for anyone else or to prove anything to anyone else so I never really cared what anyone thought of it

@ExperienceDLT Fair enough. Like I said, people get tattoos for many reasons.
@EuphoricTurtle I would hope no one would judge someone based on tattoos but I also understand the stupidity of some people so I understand that it happens

There's nothing wrong with getting tattoos because they look aesthetically pleasing.
EuphoricTurtle · 41-45, M
@SW-User I didn't mean to imply there is. The question was when it comes to aesthetics is the goal of the tattoo to embellish the body or distract as a point of focus?
SW-User
@EuphoricTurtle Wouldn't that change from person to person?
EuphoricTurtle · 41-45, M
@SW-User That's what I thought until @KickfaceK's example of how one person can do both.

I think there’s a lot of truth in that, I don’t have any but I have friends who do and this would actually explain a lot why.
