Aesthetic goals of tattoos

I have been accused of being vain because I got a fairly large tattoo on my ribcage but I actually think that getting tattoos to hide, distract, people from their body is just as (if not more) likely. The logic behind it is that other people would judge the tattoo and not their body.

I know people get tattoos for many different reasons. Paying homage to a loved one who passed away, alligience to country/club, signal a change in their life. I’m referring to people who get tattoos done just for aesthetic reasons.

Any thoughts?

I don't think I know anyone who got a tattoo to hide something or distract from a body part.

Most I know who have tatts, have a story for it's meaning to them.

@Starcrossed I have one friend who got a whole sleeve done because he thinks he’s too skinny and therefore doesn’t look tough/manly enough. The sleeve is almost like an armour, so that when people see him (in his mind) they’re not judging masculinity based his physicality but instead his tattoo,
