So, Coke, Dr. Pepper and Pepsi are working to find ways to lower the (high) amounts of sugar-- do you believe that?

The commercial says: we all need to listen to mom. Then it "brags" that they have already come up with the idea of smaller servings....is that brilliant idea? Or do they need to go back to the drawing board? Smaller servings--less sugar! (Ta-da!) 😬

They just wanna sell a smaller can for the same amount of money.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Danez or add artificial sweeteners to maintain sweetness while lowering the amount of sugar.
PeachesGR · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti Artificial sweeteners taste terrible, can have side effects and are over--sweet, so they're nowhere near combining them.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@PeachesGR less detectable if they mix with sugar
Tminus6453 · M
Well that case they better not sell anything over a 12oz bottle anymore and hope the consumer stops at just one
Tminus6453 · M
@PeachesGR Exactly... its not the soft drink companies that cause obesity/too much sugar, its the individuals choices
PeachesGR · 61-69, F
@Tminus6453 Choices? Add i'm fighting diabetes, the choices are incredibly small.... water, milk ....and very low sugar, carbonated drinks like Kombucha. (Also very hard to find.)

@Tminus6453 When I was a young we had small bottles that sold for a nickel, I believe they were 6 ounces...

In my opinion it's a scam because all sugar is addicting. It goes to the pleasure centers of the brain but also raises blood pressure so you get cravings after you just had a high sugar meal. I think simple carbs run under the same principal.

I'd have to look it up for the exact name but chips have a chemical in them that can reduce the part in your brain that tells you to stop eating because you are full.

So then after a meal of simple carbs you're still hungry even though you ate because of a combination of the above.

The pop and junk food companies know this because they have food scientists working for them so this is just my opinion but it's a scam to make more money.
Don’t buy it at home.
PeachesGR · 61-69, F
@Spoiledbrat I think you mean don't bring it home.... buying in the grocery stores is the least expensive way.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
I mean smaller servings worked in the 60s and 70s...people drank less soda because there was less soda in the bottle/glass. So it would probably work.
PeachesGR · 61-69, F
@DearAmbellina2113 But soda or sugar is an addiction... I'd say that they'll buy it in every size... and think they're drinking less, but at the end of the day, I don't think the people will really start drinking less....
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@PeachesGR people do seem to lack discipline these days
PeachesGR · 61-69, F
@DearAmbellina2113 To me, discipline is long gone.... Christmas shopping late on Thanksgiving night?! Christmas dinner shopping on Christmas eve?! (I don't know about other countries, but that's what we do in the US.)
PeachesGR · 61-69, F
Sales are dropping... and I suppose moms still do the most food shopping... It also said that sales dropped as soon as the word got out about so much obesity.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@PeachesGR I think sales dropping is a good sign, people want to care for their health.
It’s funny (and as a diabetic I watch this with interest), they went from high fructose corn syrup to cane sugar, and with the diet sodas, from aspartame to stevia, I believe. The point of drinking soda (rather than water) is its sweetness. So they’re trying to balance sweet and healthy, I guess. 🤔
PeachesGR · 61-69, F
@bijouxbroussard Yes. I'm fighting diabetes... but not very hard: I have gone without corn bread for a long long time.... today, I made some....oh!! But i'll stop at one piece, I'm sure.... 😉

Also, I'm allergic to aspartame and diet drinks taste terrible! Truly!
@PeachesGR I put a bit of Stevia in my coffee or tea. But I had to cut back and rework so many things, even switching to lower carb flours on the rare occasions I bake.
