I Work Even When I'm Not At Work

What does everyone do for a living, want to do, or working towards doing?

I'm curious to the range of talent and creativity here on SW. I also believe that its not what we do, but how we do what we do that defines us.

My Career: I've been very lucky to work with some great blue chips in the areas of IT/technical consulting for a few industries. The best part of this experience has absolutely been working/learning/getting to know people in many different countries and of many different talents. A condensed life in many ways at least for me.

I work in overseas aid in a very large NGO. I develop innovative approaches and tools for working with communities and children globally. I also develop training materials and approaches that help our local staff or communities to really see something clearly and know what to do about it.

Everything I do is about helping people see what's in front of them with insight to be able to make real change. If it doesn't change anything, it's completely unimportant.

I steer myself away from organisational politics and MBA-style concerns about the wheels within the wheels within the organisation. Boring. Couldn't care less. I want to help real people.

@Abstraction Wow such rewarding work! I've only met NGO's at parties, I never knew any personally. Reminds me of my days spent working in Washington DC,

@earlycrisis Ha! Have colleagues in DC and often go there. (Amazing city.)

@Abstraction Very cosmopolitan, and it does look like the movies, at least near DC, and the hotels, and the parties!

I work in intelligence, after 20 yrs of trying to get in. My mental engine is always chugging on this track and I explore the wider field in an armchair fashion. I belong to the professional association and enjoy sitting on the balcony in the evening with a glass of wine reading a draft intelligence report from my team.

@UpForItNow I'm sure i'll get the hang of intelligence upon my death

I’m happy with the area I work in. I studied a long time to get here. I actually enjoy going in to work

@SW-User Me too! As I reflect, my work has a lot to do with how my personality has been shaped over the years, which I am grateful for.

Right now I'm working in a factory/warehouse. I'm into computer science and I'm in school trying to get a degree in web development.

@SubstantialKick Cool! Best of luck with that! I think that's a great direction, if you could tinker with coding even better in my opinion.
