Why are some people on the internet such a*holes? What do they get out of it?

They are in misery and you know the old saying: "Misery loves company" Also, they believe that since they are behind a keyboard they can say what they want without ramifications. I am willing to bet that if one met them in real life they would not act in such a manner.

@Bri89 I'd love to be able to test that theory. Maybe there's some kind of tick in my brain, but I genuinely find it difficult to imagine people wanting to be cruel on purpose. Intellectually I get it but in practice it's hard to connect with. Maybe they are acting out their shadow.
