I was his favorite.

One thing I really miss about my dad is that he made me feel cared about. My big brother always got praised for his grades and his art. My little brother has autism and requires extra attention. I just sort of fell between the cracks most of the time as the middle child. My dad would always take the time to make me feel cared about while my mom attended more towards my siblings especially my little brother.

My name is Hifumi but he would always just call me fumi. He was super into fixing up old cars. He would always let me help wash them and would take me out in them on drives. He would say hey fumi want to go to the corner store and I would always be excited because that meant giant pixie sticks. We always got those.

We also used to have a swing set in our backyard and he'd push me on the swing. There also used to be an apple tree. We would throw old gross apples at the neighbors garage because he was a jerk. I remember being his little helper for a lot of projects. I helped scrape paint off the garage. I used to sweep the grass up when he would edge and mow the lawn. I was his right hand man in a way.

Sadly I'll never get those days back. I won't get to experience anything like that again.

It sounds like you have some pretty cool memories though?

@Adaydreambeliever I do but sadly they were cut short.

@TempuraShrimp I kinda got that impression.. it is sad for sure.. but if you could find a way to hold on to the good memories that might be a great way of honouring him

Unfortunately, that's part of life and getting older. The only guarantee in life is change. All you can do is cherish the memories.

It’s great that you had that special relationship with him & all those fond memories.
