Our uniform for indoor PE was a light blue polo shirt with dark blue gym knickers. We always did PE in bare feet because no shoes were allowed in the gym. If we forgot any of our kit we had to try to borrow or find something to wear from lost property. If we couldn't find anything, we had to participate in our underwear 😢

My best friend at primary school had to do PE in her knickers when she forgot her shorts. I felt so bad for her 😢
We always did indoor PE in bare feet, even at secondary school.

We did PE in pants and vests until we were 7 and then after that if we forgot our PE clothes. It wasn't so bad as people make out 🙄

My feet were too narrow for plimsolls, so I had to do all my PE lessons in bare feet, not just gymnastics and dance. It is much easier to climb a rope or apparatus without shoes 😄

At primary school, we didn't have PE kit and boys did it in their pants, and girls in just our knickers! At secondary it was single sex and we had gym knickers and vests for indoor PE, with bare feet, but if we forgot our kit we had to do it in our underwear.

Growing up in England in the 1950's /60's at Junior school the girls all did p.e in their knickers at senior school they had the option of continuing to do p.e in their knickers or a gym skirt,most continued in their knickers,the only difference being that at junior school the knickers were bottle green whilst at senior school they were navy blue.

Until age 12 boys did PE in just their underpants and girls wore vest and pants
After that boy and girls did PE separately. We did it in just shorts. Girls wore tshirts and shorts.

Nobody in my school was ever made to do pe in their underwear. When we were young it was just you do pe in your normal clothes, we had no uniform, then when we were older you just used spare gear. Only time I ever did pe in my underpants was when I was really young and I was wearing jeans on a really hot day, we were doing football(soccer) and I hate doing sports in jeans so I took them off
