Does society control?
Do you feel society tells us who we can and can't be? Maybe give us boundaries to say inside of? Prevent us from being our true selves?

No. Only the weak-minded individual can be compelled to feel this way.

To some extent it certainly tries to do that. In some cultures much more restrictively than in others.
