I Will Take As Many Words As I Want To Write This Story

The good, the bad and the ugly (not in that order)

I’ll start with the bad: my mother died last week.

The good: so many people are showing kindness. Whenever something bad happens to me, at least I have lots of people reaching out to me. That helps more than I can say.

And, the ugly: the company I work for does not have a bereavement leave policy. So, I had to use some paid time off to see my mother one last time and go to the funeral.

And you know what’s *really* ugly? I didn’t have enough PTO left to cover all the time I was gone. So I’ve had to use leave without pay, which means a smaller paycheck next time.

I’m considering looking for another job.

Oh Kat, I am so sorry for your loss. I didn’t realize she was so advanced in her illness. My heartfelt condolences to you, and your family.

I don’t think much of a company that does not have leave for bereavement. That’s insensitive at best, and they just added stress to your sorrow.

Comforting hugs.
