I Have Random Thoughts Of Randomness

So, on Mother's Day, the wife and I had lunch with a friend of ours who now lives in a retirement community. When she moved in, our friend purchased a snazzy new recliner with electronic controls for the footrest and headrest and all. The wife was quite taken with this chair, especially considering that our furniture is starting to show its age and is starting to be uncomfortable to use.

As it happens, the furniture store where our friend bought her snazzy chair is located on the way home from her place, so the wife decided we should stop in and just look to see what they had. Sure, no problem.

Almost immediately upon stepping into the store, we saw a double recliner — basically a love seat with two independently controlled units controlling the headrests, the footrests and — ta-da! — lumbar support. There was even a happy little console between the two seats with cupholders and storage. And it cost a mere $1,400, which isn't that expensive when you consider how much a single recliner like this costs.

We wandered about the store some more, and found the bed section. They had a split king-sized bed with controls that elevated your head and feet. The wife really liked this. She has had trouble sleeping for quite some time, and also she was diagnosed a while back with a cerebral aneurysm, so it's important that she limit the pressure in her blood system. She thought that this lovely bed would allow her to rest better while also reducing the pressure on her head. Well, I'm all for that.

So, after some consideration, we decide to get both the mechanized love seat and bed. This is unusual for us. We live frugally as possible, especially since the wife had to quit her job because of her various health issues. We perseverate over even the most minor purchases.

In this case, we were both good with dropping $5,000 with neither planning nor research into the products, signed on the dotted lines and expected to have the products delivered the next day.

Until we went to bed that night. After we went to bed, but before the lights went out, the wife said that she had changed her mind, that she didn't want to buy the things we had purchased.

So, today, the wife is going into the store to cancel the order. Normally, this would be something I would take care of, but damn it, we only purchased the things in the first place because she thought they would be good ideas, so she can deal with the store to get them unpurchased.

And its another example of what I often say — the only reason to ever have a plan is so that the wife has something to change.

Haha, yep. "Happy wife, happy life" is not just a slogan, it is reality.

@Stereoguy Yeah. I'm usually the one who panics at the idea of spending lots of money, but I was cool with it. Ah well. So it goes.

@Stereoguy She might, in which case, I'll call the store and cancel. I'm happy to go along with what she needs up to a point, but then it starts to get overwhelming.
