I Love Meditation

I want to try meditation but I’m in need of advice, how do you do it? I get it’s about accepting when you get off track, being okay with it and allowing your mind to come back to focus. But how do you meditate? Does it have to be quiet? Does it matter how I sit? What if I can’t stop thinking lol...

I like the guided meditations in the Calm app. I’ve been using the sleep ones at night, and I’ve been sleeping more soundly since using them. My mind sometimes wanders when meditating, so I do my best to bring it back to the meditation. Good luck! I think there are many benefits from being more mindful, more present, meditating regularly.

@PhoenixPhail Thanks. I’m trying to get better with my practice. I don’t meditate as consistently as I’d like to do it.
@ChampagneOnIce You're welcome. I don't meditate as often as I "should," myself.

One suggestion; don't try to get better. Just meditate and let it be what it is. Thoughts arising doesn't mean a non-successful meditation. When you find yourself in thought, kindly notice a thought has arisen, and gently, without judgement, return to being still.

When a thought arises, regardless of what it is, I envision it as a pink-magenta cloud just above and in front of my head - about a foot away - and picture it blowing away behind me. Seeing this in my mind's eye, replaces the thought with the image of it leaving me.
I've found it a good tool.

@PhoenixPhail Thanks. Good advice, and I appreciate it.
Meditation is just about becoming present in the moment, allowing your mind to become still, which is not easy for anyone, especially in the beginning. But it gets easier with practice.
Sit on any position that's comfortable. You can focus on a comfortable word or short phrase as a mantra. Some people stare at a candle flame. There are many good instructional videos on YouTube.

@PhoenixPhail oooh thanks! I’m working on being more present and grateful, just forcing myself to no longer focus/obsess over if my ex is coming back or not lol tbh
@Lust4lufe Be careful what you focus on. It's a thought-responsive universe, regardless of your desire. Focusing on anything will bring more of it to you. If you focus on something you want, you're saying come to me, this thing that I want. If you focus on something you DON'T want, you're saying come to me, this thing I do not want.

There are guided meditations on YouTube. And you can select them by what you're trying to achieve.
You can try with one of those.

@SW-User yeah, I’ve tried some of those before, they’re pretty cool

@Lust4lufe I want to get into those. Also something new for me, but I was thinking about it.

If you search Byron Katie on YouTube listen to her speeches... if you can’t sleep then just listen to her method of calming the mind.
1. Is your thought true?
2. Are absolutely sure it is true?
3. How do you react when you believe that thought?
4. Who would you be without that thought?

Now turn the thought around and find 3 ways that it’s true:
I don’t need her.
- I haven’t needed her for all the years prior to meeting her.
- I am alive now, sitting, standing, or laying down without her, so it’s not absolutely true that I need her since my body and organs function autonomously.
- I have what I need to stay alive... oxygen, water, food, and shelter.

That is an intro to Byron Katie’s method, it’s called: The Work 😊👍

Sleeping isn’t really my thing, I know it makes the time go faster but, I have insomnia and especially lately when I even nap I have really vivid nightmares @Specialyouare
Lust4lufe · 26-30, M
@Specialyouare but, I will let you know just, how the night went.. I can already feel the negative thoughts racing in 😞 but hey, I got this, I’m sorry, I don’t want you to waster your positivity and foresight on me tonight.

I’m a realist, not a positive gal. But if you have insomnia I hope these videos can entertain and inspire. Also... you can search for Ted Talks on ANY topic... those are very inspiring to watch as well! 😊💪👍
