Assuming that half of these armed peanuts get lost trying to find Florida. That still leaves over 25,000 people stupid enough to do this thing and supposedly smart enough own a gun.

Weird that a sheriff feels the need to remind people of this. A couple of points though:

1. An IQ test is not required to purchase a weapon in the US.

2. If they're close enough to a hurricane, to shoot at it, they're in its destructive path. Go back to point #1.

I read the report in the Irish Times.
There is a 'disclaimer' in there which says
