Why do people put used toilet paper in the garbage instead of flushing it?

I encounter this sometimes in the customer bathroom at work. Why do this? I guess I can understand it in a place that's known for poor plumbing, but this is a public bathroom with a powerful flushing toilet. I've never seen it clogged in the time I've worked here. Why do some people do this? It's nasty 🤢

depends on how and where you lived.. out in country side many people use septic tanks,, and paper is kind of a no no.. have you ever seen a septic tank back up (not a good sight)... people in the city really don't worry ,, pipes here for sewage can range in six to ten inch diameters,, and can handle paper...

This is highly common in China. The plumbing can't handle the paper. In all of the stalls are tiny buckets to toss in the paper - if paper is used. They're getting more Western, but the more rural or older you go, the higher the chance of seeing baskets for paper.

I read something mad once about how people leave shit in the bowl at public bathrooms as a sort of ah, trophy, you know, so others can be impressed with their 'creation'. Their pride!

I ran into that when I lived on the border. Mexican plumbing sucks so they are used to putting used paper in the trash, on the floor, wherever it lands.

@katielass Hmm. There are a lot of Mexican immigrants in this area, so it's possible. I'm Mexican myself and I know how bad the plumbing can be down there...

When I was a custodian I noticed that too but it was always in the women's bathrooms. I hated the women's bathrooms.

I hate them too. Disgusting. One time I took my son into one and there was literally 💩 smeared on the walls, doors, and toilets. Two toilets and could not use them. He had to go so bad too and we couldn’t use it. Grrrr Women can be nasty.@MethDozer
