And probably if you were a self-pay patient, that cost would be a quarter of that (probably even less).
When I had my daughter, I was billed 13K (no-nonsense healthy vaginal delivery - no meds). I didn't have typical insurance so to them, I was self-pay. I received a 75% discount plus another 20% on that balance for paying within 15 days. My total? $2600. It's crazy to think that there's people in this world (too many people) paying $1000 monthly premiums with 10K deductibles. So to a normal healthy woman having a child in that situation - her bills (premiums + deductible) for having a baby that year would have been $22K! And how awful would that be if her baby was born December 31st! Deductible would start over the next day...
Not saying insurance is bad - not saying that at all! But the difference between what they bill insurance companies and what they bill an individual paying out of pocket is ridiculous. Fortunately, we're apart of a health-share ministry that reimburses us for all our bills. We get 100% covered! I'm so thankful I never have to fight with another insurance company again!
I'm assuming you do have insurance? I hope they pick up a very large portion of that bill for you. Good luck!
