I Think The Cane Should Be Bought Back Into The School System

I used to but I know this will never happen. We accepted it as the norm.
No chance....barbaric punishment.

@MartinII With "barbaric" defined as "brutal or cruel", violence against a child (and hitting them is violence) would qualify. Our 8th Amendment prohibits corporal punishments in prisons as "cruel and unusual". So if that’s been determined with adult convicts, how can it be otherwise with children ?
@MartinII the cane causes welts and bruising.....designed to cause temporary injury.Totally unacceptable.
Why not biblical stoning. The dead won't disobey ever again🙄
@canusernamebemyusername Few think about the many things the bible forbids that are simply ignored. Most of them have death for punishment

Paddling in school was the norm at all ages in Texas back in my day - the 60s and 70s - it still happens in some schools there.

@bijouxbroussard You are not one to respect other people’s opinions, are you?
@MartinII I acknowledge the difference between opinion and fact. That I think it’s barbaric is my opinion. That it stopped happening in most public schools here first because parents objected is fact.

How about y'all instead keep your deranged borderline pedophilic fetishes out of public schools?

I think we just know now that it isn't effective and can cause more problems than it solves.
Growing up in the USA, the cane wasn’t used much but we got paddled at school and the schools were better for doing it.
chrisCA · M
@Txbob52 Other than maybe private schools, the cane was not a tradition in Canadian schools. Neither was the paddle.
@Txbob52 The schools weren't necessarily better for it. Not everyone who hits your child has his or her best interests at heart. 😒

@bijouxbroussard I totally agree and it's exactly my concern. I was a child in a similar situation once and i know what it's like having no one believe you.
I think I would be very angry for a very long time if someone hit me with a cane. I would likely hit them back.
@Thisthinglovesyou Back in those days a lot of kidswere angry about being hit but very few hit back. Though it did happen.
@SensibleJulie such a lack of self respect, letting someone hit you and tell you it was your fault and they did it to benefit you.
@Thisthinglovesyou I think you have to understand that this happened in a different time. Kids being hit as a punishment was the norm. It was generally accepted. You even heard kids saying they had deserved it.

candy canes? do they not allow them anymore? WOW they are going too far!
gonefromhere · 56-60, F
@Danez I fully support candy canes.
chrisCA · M
@Danez Ban candy canes, and the terrorists win.

I agree. Rightly or wrongly the cane will never be brought back in Britain, or Australia or any other place it has been banned.
gonefromhere · 56-60, F
@SensibleJulie Yes, and has discipline improved over those years?
That depends who you ask. The teachers have certainly become more law abiding and careful about how they behave.

You only see it in a few private schools now seems like you see it in the homes of consenting adults too more than anywhere else. They sure do have a sting like nothing else.
MartinII · 70-79, M
How many times were you caned at school?
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
how about better parenting?
gonefromhere · 56-60, F
@sighmeupforthat Number one priority yes
i got it at school and at home
chrisCA · M
Those were different times.

Corporal punishments proved their effectiveness when I was a student😥 and any of us did not complain he/she was abused. Nowadays it happens the teachers be aggressed by students and the discipline in school is almost lost.

That's a terrible idea
