I Have Random Thoughts

Who should stay home after having children?
Sapio · 46-50, M
When my daughter was born when I was 21 she spent the majority of her time from 0 to 2 with me. My son was a mommy's boy.

I doubt I'll have more kids being 45 now but I think that at least one parent should be home so that the children can learn the principles and values the parents want to instill. A babysitter cannot teach that. But for most with the cost of living and inflation, the ability to have an at home parent becomes increasingly difficult.

@Sapio I feel that that parent should be the mother.

@Madeleine I agree but I always try to remain objective in my comments. That's why I stated at least one parent should be home.

The mother for at least a year or two......cos she needs to breast feed her baby..and be a mama :)
but the dad should share other responsibilities... :)

I think if anyone should stay home, it should be the parent with the lesser income.

@Greenbare How?

I worked 2nd shift. While my wife worked days. We never had to pay for daycare and we both spent a lot of time with them. For us, it was the right move.

In the earlier years, a child needs their mother more than their father.

@SW-User but momma also needs a break

@MarineBob Yes. A father will come home from work and there will be weekends and he could take his paternity leave stretched over weeks. People have been doing it for a long time. It's just scheduling.

both mother and father for as long as their employers allow them
