I Am An Asian

I am an Asian. I came to the US for my higher education. During these years, people have usually looked at me with curiosity because I am short, brown eyes, yellow skin, and long hair. Some classmates are eager to help me while the others do not talk with me no matter how hard I tried. My friend has recently asked me why Asians were so cheap to be used as jokes from daily life to tv shows. I have watched those shows but it does not mean that is how we are. Those shows are for laughing from imaginary stories but many Americans forget this main point. I think that many Americans are too weak to learn about the others so they prefer ignoring and laughing.

Lots of ignorant people out there who are still afraid of anyone different. Mostly trump supporters and that ilk. Many Americans are not like that...I would say most...it will never stop in your life but how you deal with it is the most important part. I have been the butt of people' jokes and scrutiny and judgments all my life for various reasons. I accept that it will never stop. I have a sense of humor about it and sometimes take the opportunity to teach people that I am different but ok...teachable moments.

@wildflower12 That is a lot different from our area in the Midwest and from what I have seen of the West and East Coast where it is the liberal young people that are the most violent and use vile language. Where did you ever see conservative young people doing destructive protests at places in California or New York?
She is the biggest snowflake if I’ve ever seen one. Always complaining about Trump and blaming Trump for everything. She is nuts. @acpguy

You have a good point. I think some of us are scared that you are so much smarter than we are and you are also more industrious / hard working. We have a friend from India that adopted us as his American mom & dad. He has impressed me with his intelligence because their school systems teach what needs to be taught and not the touchy / feely liberal crap our schools do here.

I have learned to make southern Indian food and love the spices. He has made it a point that we are going to India when he get s married in the next year and has asked our permission just like all his other family members.

Be proud of who you are and where you come from.

@acpguy It is a nice story. Thanks for your sharing and encouraging.

It’s funny that we are marked with poor education and yet the people who are stereotypically known as the hardest of studiers are being sent here for education...
wildflower12 · 31-35, F
@Bearserks I do not think we can select who we can study but we have to look for them. Students jump into the classes who have good teachers to study. Students jump into the countries that can supply good education for their career paths. That is what I meant when I used the word " selective".

Your opinion is very broad while I just discussed about being selective to be educated for career paths. Are you discussing about why Asian students claim American students are not smart? As I said above, your education focuses on building characters and deep knowledge. Many successful Americans have deep knowledge about their fields because they motivate themselves to learn and read books everyday while Asians are not. My friends, who are engineers in Canada and England, told me that they really admire American engineers because of their knowledge. However, Asians are good at studying. We usually study over 12 hours everyday. Most young Asian youth I met have excellent studying records but they seriously lack necessary skills and need to learn much to change their arrogant attitude.

I used to volunteer to teach children in some churches in America. Many kids I taught did not remember multiplication table although they were in class 4 or 5. Those children were usually naughty and made problems in the classes everyday. However, they were never be claimed badly and beaten as we did in our countries. Their classmates also did not run far away from them because they were bad students. Children were usually taken to the principles who showed them their faults. In some serious cases, they would be sent to home in that day but they could attend the class in the next day. I really like your American educating because I believe building characters is much more important for a long run. Maybe your education is easy but it gives time for students to focus on practicing in life and learning what they want. That is why American have excellent and famous people in all fields.

@wildflower12 I was lucky. I went to a private Catholic grade school and they were very good and very demanding. For High School I was also lucky as I received a scholarship to a very good Jesuit school and they were even tougher as we had to maintain a 3.5 grade point average or we would get kicked out. I had several college credits for AP Classes at that high school also which helped going to college. When I saw the difference before, during and after graduating it was amazing. I received a college degree in education with a double major but never taught as I was offered a private sector job for twice the salary of what teachers were making.

@acpguy I think GPA is also a tool of motivating students to "be alike the other". Did your school apply record ranking too, acp guy?
firefall · 61-69, M
Yes, many Americans prefer to only think purely in aggravating, stupid stereotypes
majesticsea · 31-35, F
With no exposure growing up with other race, they are prone to be ignorant and socially inappropriate when they meet someone of a different culture or appearance.
firefall · 61-69, M
@majesticsea I think (fear) it might be the other way around, the leader reflects the character of his people
majesticsea · 31-35, F
@firefall Yeah they are the "products" of society. So I am sure it goes both ways.
acpguy · C
@majesticsea The liberal run schools here and Obama have really messed up our kids. I have spoke with many Muslim and Indian college students and they like Trump and hated Hillary & Obama. They talk about how their grade schools made them work hard for their grades and taught more advanced subjects than our schools.
Not weak just some are ignorant.

@MissMollyCharlotte0702 Yes I think the same. I realize that those people who are arrogant with their nationality usually live around their neighbors and do not have some chances to go to the other states or countries.

Good for you. Welcome to the US. Some of us americans need to learn more
bhatjc · 46-50, M

pay more attention to your work, your friends and meaningless things would cease to exist for you
SW-User
@wildflower12 why can't you think out of the box. Look at people as people and life would be easier
SW-User
@wildflower12 you're so negative, you gave me negative energy
wildflower12 · 31-35, F
There are many races in the US and racism still exists. I am sorry for making you feel negative, but sometimes we have to face the truth and find solutions. I know this can be a big truth. You should watch some American TV shows. Asians are usually roles who make the most weird things for people to laugh at.

I choose not to ignore you, I want to get to know you please?
