Why do some people insert an apostrophe into the word "its"?

All it does is turn it into a completely different word with a completely different meaning. What do they hope to gain from it?

Autocorrect does that frequently. Part of the reason I fired it.

At least this way, they are MY mistakes!@Soossie
Lol... I agree with you on that... @Mamapolo2016
Why do you assume people are seeking to gain something from a grammatical error?
@FrankietheFly I don’t care what you think. It doesn’t change the fact that you made errors.

@FrankietheFly You did.
I know the rule, but my autocorrect doesn't, and it usually wins.

"its" = possessive
"it's" = it is
such is a contraction of "It is" It's
OR it can be a possessive It has a face It's Face

It's a mystery, as one is a possessive and one a contraction.
